The district council has blamed a printing contractor ‘mistake’ for resulting in scores of East Devon residents failing to receive polling cards. East Devon District Council (EDDC) on Monday (July 1) apologised to residents left without polling cards ahead of Thursday’s General Election (July 4). EDDC said it was ‘doing all it can’ to make sure East Devon residents affected can still vote. The district council said polling cards were sent out by first class post on Monday (July 1) to those still waiting. Police appeal for witnesses after woman, 82, is injured in a car crash in East Devon

An 82-year-old injured woman was taken to hospital after being freed from a car crash in East Devon over the weekend. Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to what they have described as a ‘serious collision’ in Branscombe, East Devon,  where a Toyota Yarris being driven by the pensioner was on Saturday afternoon (June 29) involved in a crash with a tree on the A3052 road. Flood warnings and alerts were issued across East Devon throughout Thursday (May 2) following hours of heavy overnight rain. The Environment Agency (EA) said river levels were high and some roads and low-lying land could be flooded as a result. Flood warnings were issued for areas of Axminster and Yarcombe after heavy rain caused the River Yarty to rise, with calls for farmers to be aware their livestock could be at risk in fields close to the river. Heavy rain lasting more than 24 hours has resulted in multiple flood warnings and alerts being issued for areas across East Devon. The Environment Agency (EA) said it expects river levels in many areas to remain high overnight, and into Tuesday (December 5). Residents living near flooded areas are urged to be aware that water could be fast-flowing and deep. Strong winds of up to 50mph kept highway teams busy in East Devon and across the county with more than 50 call-outs to fallen trees or branches blocking roads.
