Figures reveal fall in East Devon voters’ turnout at county elections

Numbers of East Devon voters turning out to the ballot boxes amid the county elections has fallen while postal votes increased, it has been revealed. Voter turnout at the ballot box is down in the biggest district of Devon’s county-wide elections, writes local democracy reporter Bradley Gerrard. Figures for the nine divisions that make up the East Devon district show the percentage of voters has dropped in all but one. Kathryn Goff, aged 52, of Milton Road, Wonford, in Exeter, was on Friday (April 25) jailed for 20 months and banned from holding a licence after she admitted driving dangerously. Safer walking and cycling routes for two East Devon towns has been championed in Parliament in a bid to protect school children. Gas pipe upgrade prompts weeks of road closures, temporary traffic lights and parking bans for Sidmouth

Weeks of road closures, temporary traffic lights and parking bans are set to start in Sidmouth next week, until September, while gas pipes are upgraded. Wales & West Utilities has announced it will start a £336,000 upgrade on Tuesday, April 22, closing the road along Manstone Lane until mid-May, and setting up temporary traffic lights at a nearby junction until August. Other restrictions include a parking ban lasting around a month, from June until mid-July for a residential area of town, and a further road closure. The company said the upgrade will be completed during September ‘barring any engineering difficulties’.…

The district council has blamed a printing contractor ‘mistake’ for resulting in scores of East Devon residents failing to receive polling cards.
