New figures have shown coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in all but six of the wards in East Devon – with the highest numbers in Axminster, Seaton, Exmouth and Sidmouth. An updated interactive map has also revealed just one area of Exeter has avoided fatalities due to the virus. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has analysed all deaths involving Covid-19 that occurred between March 1 and May 31, and were registered by June 6. Temporary traffic lights are in place near Sidford after a ‘cavernous’ sinkhole appeared beneath the road at the end of the week. The A3052 road near Branscombe Cross was closed on Friday, May 22, and motorists warned not to ignore the signs and drive through after a sinkhole was discovered beneath the highway between Sidmouth and Colyford, near the Donkey Sanctuary. The road closure and diversion has been replaced by temporary traffic lights over the bank holiday weekend. Exmouth has been revealed as the parking ticket capital of East Devon – with more fines dished out there than in all of the district’s other towns and villages combined. The seaside resort was in fact the second most prolific place for the dreaded yellow notices in all of Devon last year, behind only Exeter. Penalties issued in Exmouth account for 65 per cent of all parking tickets issued in East Devon – 2,360 more than everywhere else added together. More than £16,000 of public money has been awarded to 20 organisations, groups and events across the Sid Valley. The five-figure sum in Sidmouth Town Council grants will benefit festivals, preschools and charities. Sidmouth Science Festival landed the largest award of £3,000. Citizens Advice East Devon has been handed £2,000, while Sid Valley HELP and Sidmouth Arboretum have been given £1,500 apiece. Town council calls for complete dog ban at four green spaces in Sidmouth – and for canines to be kept on leads near cycleways

Dogs could be completely banned from a quartet of popular green spaces in Sidmouth and Sidford – with owners also ordered to keep canines on leads near cycleways. Town councillors have told environmental health chiefs that all land used for ‘recreation and sports’ should be no-go zones for four-legged friends. Over 100 vehicles stopped by police in operation at Sidford

More than 100 vehicles were stopped by police during an operation on the A3052 at Sidford. Devon and Cornwall Police conducted the traffic operation on November 26, the East Devon Rural Policing Team reported today. Eight of the stopped motorists were issued with tickets for offences such as speeding and having no MOT. In addition, drugs were found and seized in one incident and one arrest was made in another. The wheels have been set in motion on a bid to ban HGVs weighing more than seven-and-a-half tonnes from the road linking Sidbury and Sidford.
