These photos show the moments after an aeroplane this week crashed into the river in East Devon  after disappearing from radar and issuing a distress call for help. Firefighters from three counties were on Tuesday (August 1) called to the Musbury area of East Devon, after reports a light aircraft had disappeared from the radar and was in the River Axe. Firefighters tackling a blaze at woodland in East Devon on Tuesday evening (June 13) believe the fire to be the work of an arsonist. These photos show the area damaged as the blaze spread, which took crews around five hours to bring under control. They believe the blaze was started deliberately. Police have confirmed they are treating the blaze as arson, and have appealed for information. An East Devon care home told to improve by government inspectors has drafted in a new manager in a bid to raise standards. Elmwood Residential Home, in Colyford, Colyton, was inspected by regulator Care Quality Commission (CQC) in December 2022, where it was found the service required improvement, after monitoring the care home’s safety standards and leadership. Street parties, big lunches, and community events – sparking road closures – are taking place in East Devon and Exeter over the weekend to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla. Pet dogs and a woman were rescued from a car in a ditch after a crash in Axminster on Monday afternoon (April 24). Firefighters from East Devon were called shortly before 2pm to rescue a woman ‘due to medical reasons’, after a report a car was in a ditch in the Axminster area. After two dogs inside the vehicle were taken to safety, fire crews removed the car door to rescue the casualty. She was taken to hospital by ambulance. Work to roll out full fibre broadband to rural areas of East Devon and Exeter is set to start in the spring, it has been announced. This year parts of Colyton, Gittisham and Sidmouth, in East Devon, plus thousands of addresses in Exeter, will be connected by internet service provider Airband as part of the Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) programme. Firefighters from East Devon and Dorset rescued a casualty trapped in an overturned car near Axminster on Wednesday morning (January 25). The emergency services were called to Uphay Lane, between Membury and Axminster, at around 8am to a crash involving one car. The ‘shaken’ driver was checked over at the scene by paramedics but did not need hospital treatment. Firefighters accessed the vehicle through the boot and rear window then made space for the casualty to be freed to a waiting ambulance. Towns across East Devon have joined forces with MP Simon Jupp in calling for the district council to fully reopen its tax-payer-funded headquarters to the public.
