Skate parks and multi-use games areas in East Devon have been shut until Thursday, December 3, under national Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. Proposals for a new Seaton Tramway stop – that will link up pair of the town’s major tourist attractions – have been unanimously approved. A bid to extend Seaton Jurassic – one of East Devon’s biggest tourist attractions – have been supported by district council bosses.  The community-led centre at The Underfleet engages thousands of people with the area’s unique geological, coastal and marine heritage, writes Local Democracy Reporter Daniel Clark. Public gardens and a nature reserve in East Devon have achieved the highest international standards and been named worthy of Green Flag Awards. Connaught Gardens, in Sidmouth, Exmouth’s Manor Gardens, and Seaton Wetlands nature reserve have been joined by Seafield Gardens, in Seaton, in scooping the top award. Weekly government figures show 92 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in East Devon – with ‘clusters’ identified in ten areas of the district. Half of the positive tests relate to specimen dates in the past seven days; the rest go back to September. Eleven new cases had been confirmed across the district in the previous week. A total of 397 Covid-19 cases have now been recorded in East Devon, where the infection rate is 271.4 for every 100,000 people. In Exeter, 603 new cases have been confirmed. A windsurfer in difficulty and drifting out to sea off Seaton was rescued by the Lyme Regis lifeboat. The man was spotted in the sea a quarter of a mile off Seaton on Friday afternoon (September 25), where he was seen trying to paddle against an offshore wind when he could not get his sail up out of the water. The stricken windsurfer, and his board, was taken back to shore where he was given safety advice by Beer Coastguard Rescue team. Firefighters from Seaton are urging care when using disposable barbecues outside after the crew tackled a blaze in a skip in Axmouth. The fire crew found a skip on fire near the shore at Axmouth Yacht Club at around 11am on Sunday, September 20. Firefighters believe the blaze was the result of a disposable barbecue, thrown away while still hot. The crew used a hose reel jet and a compressed air foam system (CAFS) jet to tackle the blaze. Firefighters from Seaton and Colyton tackled an accidental tractor blaze in Whitford.    A water bowser from Dorset was also called to Colyton Hill in the East Devon village, near Axminster, after the alarm was raised at around 5pm on Wednesday (September 17). Crews arrived to find the tractor engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished and the area made safe. Play park wish-lists of zip-slides, trampolines and more – totalling £175,000 – have been granted to children living in Seaton and Honiton. Seafield Gardens play area, on Seaton seafront, has been given a £100,000 facelift while Cherry Close park in Honiton boasts £75,000 of new equipment. A new interactive map has shown no coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in East Devon or Exeter in July. Latest statistics show fatalities due to the virus have been logged in 16 of the district’s 20 wards and all but one of the city’s 14 areas.
