Praise has been heaped on GCSE students celebrating results in East Devon, as headteachers revealed their pride in the pupils’ achievements.
Weeks of waiting to find out if their hard work paid off came to an end on Thursday (August 20) when students collected their GCSE results.
Exmouth Community College said there had been a ‘real sense of achievement’ for students collecting results, while Sidmouth College said it was ‘filled with pride’, at the ‘excellent’ grades.
Honiton Community College is celebrating the school’s strongest GCSE performance in recent years.
Cranbrook Education Campus hailed a ‘strong’ set of GCSE results, while celebrating a successful first year of offering separate science qualifications – where 91 per cent of Year 11 pupils achieved a Grade 4 or above across their separate science qualifications.
Exmouth

Overall, there were some very strong subject results with students of Dance securing 100 per cent of grades at 4 and above this year, and significant improvements in the Humanities (Geography and History) and Technology subjects.

Sidmouth
Some 71 per cent of Sidmouth College students achieved Grade 4 (a pass) or above in both English and Maths, with 50 per cent achieving Grade 5 or above in both subjects.

The college said both measures were significantly above the national average and represent a further year of improved overall success.

“GCSE results day is also a chance to reflect on the wider experiences that have been part of life at Sidmouth College students have continued to contribute to the life of the school and it has been wonderful to see them share their ideas and help shape their school experience.
“Whether they continue into sixth form, further education, an apprenticeship or employment, we wish all our students every success for the future.”
Honiton
More than 70 per cent of Honiton Community College students achieved a grade 4 or above in Maths, with more than half securing a grade 5 or higher. More than 74 per cent achieved a grade 4 or above in English and more than 75 per cent did so in Science. Across all subjects, half of all grades awarded were grade 5 or higher.
The college said the results reflected the ‘hard work, determination and ambition’ of students.

Cranbrook

Pupils achieved a ‘strong’ set of GCSE results. Many Year 10 pupils who took their early-entry English Literature GCSE secured a pass, helping to prepare them to move into their final GCSE year.
Cranbrook Education Campus also celebrated a successful first year of offering separate science qualifications with 91 per cent of Year 11 pupils achieving a Grade 4 or above across their separate science qualifications. Some 100 per cent of pupils achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE Biology and GCSE Chemistry, and 91 per cent in GCSE Physics.
