Town centre public loos closed long-term in Budleigh Salterton could be demolished to make way for more car parking spaces amid a bid by district planners. Royalty was in East Devon when The Duke of Gloucester visited Budleigh Salterton and Ottery St Mary to open new almshouses. As part of the celebrations in Budleigh the late Queen’s cousin, Prince Richard, officially opened the town’s first-ever almshouses. In Ottery he was given a tour of the new purpose-built homes where he met the first residents, Anne Bastyan and Chris Thomas. Nick Phillips, The Almshouse Association CEO who accompanied the royal visitor, said the Duke opened the first new almshouse charity to launch in 50 years, visiting Budleigh after The Shandford Trust developed the new homes. Months of gas pipe upgrades begin in Exmouth next week, sparking a road closure and temporary traffic lights in Littleham. Wales & West Utilities will begin work in the Salterton Road area of Exmouth on Monday, June 8, and will continue into 2027. The contractor said traffic controls will be in place throughout the works, starting with a directional road closure from June 8, followed by temporary traffic lights in September. The county council has agreed: A direction road closure on Cranford Avenue/Littleham Road.  No vehicle access to Cranford Avenue from Littleham Road from June 8 until July 3, 2026.…

The battle to open a banking hub in Budleigh Salterton has been taken to Parliament by David Reed, MP for Exmouth and Exeter East, keen to challenge red tape and aid residents’ access to cash. The MP is pushing against rules set out by LINK, the operator behind cash machines and banking hubs, after it judged money could be accessed in Budleigh through its Post Office and from ATMs and banks in Exmouth.
