Town centre public loos closed long-term in Budleigh Salterton could be demolished to make way for more car parking spaces amid a bid by district planners.
A disused toilet block looks set to be demolished to help create extra parking spaces in an East Devon town, writes local democracy reporter Bradley Gerrard.
The toilets at Brook Road in Budleigh Salterton haven’t been operating for more than five years, and now East Devon District Council has submitted proposals to get rid of them entirely.
The freed-up area will then be used to create more parking spaces as the block is located in a car park.
The public toilet block, in the centre of an existing car park, has been closed for several years.

Documents show that the roof tiles and timbers will be manually stripped and possibly salvaged by a demolition company, while the remaining walls and floor base will be broken up by demolition machinery and taken to a tip or recycling crusher.
The drains for the toilets will be removed to the main line and capped, while the electrics will be disconnected.
The works are expected to start on September 21, if planning permission is granted, and last roughly one month.
Several public toilets have been permanently closed by East Devon District Council in recent years, including Exmouth’s Orcombe Point and Jarvis Close, Sidmouth’s Port Royal, as well as facilities in Sidbury, Sidford and Seaton.
Toilets at the Maer in Exmouth have also been closed.
