A man missing from Colyton was flown to hospital with ‘life-changing injuries’ after coastguards found him buried deep in undergrowth off a cliff ledge near Seaton. Police, search dogs, coastguard teams from Beer and Lyme Regis, the RNLI, and Dartmoor Search and Rescue, were called shortly before 9.30pm on Monday (August 10) to scour the East Devon coastline, finding the missing man injured and down the cliff face, more than 60 feet from the top. The casualty’s injuries meant he could not be stretchered to safety by rescuers so the coastguard helicopter was tasked to winch him free to waiting…

Families can now enjoy a new wildlife-themed sculpture trail at Seaton Wetlands, featuring 11 natural sculptures spread around the nature reserve. Funded by Tesco’s Bags of Help, all the sculptures have been hand-crafted out of natural materials. The challenge is to find all 11 willow and wood sculptures of a crow, hare, snail, willow dragon fly, wooden dragon fly, frog, heron, stickleback, deer, buzzard and snake. Proposals for new flats in the heart of Seaton –  that will ‘show the town means business’ – have been approved.  Members of East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) Development Management Committee went against the recommendation of planning officers by granting the Vintage Court scheme permission. They described the mooted reasons for refusal as ‘poppycock’. A pair of commercial units and a dwelling will be demolished and replaced with eight flats and two retail units as part of the project. Sidmouth beach is flying high after winning a Blue Flag for the first time and joining an elite of East Devon seaside towns scooping awards. An army of community volunteers has been praised for their beach-clean efforts, earning Sidmouth the recognition. Blue Flags will fly over Exmouth and Sidmouth while Budleigh Salterton and Seaton have scooped Seaside Awards, ranking them among the best beaches in the country. Public skate parks and games areas across East Devon will reopen next week and children’s play zones are expected to follow this month. Skate parks in Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Honiton and Seaton can be used from Monday, July 6, after they were closed at the end of March because of the coronavirus lockdown. Beach huts in East Devon will reopen from Saturday, July 4, in line with the Government’s relaxation of lockdown rules. A dislocated collarbone couldn’t stop a Seaton mum-of-two from pedalling her way through a cycle challenge to boost a cause close to her heart. District council chiefs have been urged to unlock £62,000 of East Devon clean-up cash and reopen more public toilets – or face a ‘public health issue’.  The authority’s cabinet has been told that people are relieving themselves outside locked loos and in bushes following a ‘significant’ increase in visitor numbers. New figures have shown coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in all but six of the wards in East Devon – with the highest numbers in Axminster, Seaton, Exmouth and Sidmouth.
