Two outdated play areas in Axminster are to benefit from new facilities – designed by local children. A total of £157,000 worth of improvements will be delivered. Five Axminster sports projects are to be offered grants totalling more than £227,000, it has been announced today. A new skate park at Cloakham Lawns will get £150,000 towards a £266,000 project – if it can raise the remainder of the cash. And plans to provide a new surface at the bowling club will be offered £50,000. A man was left ‘medically trapped’ in a vehicle following a collision in Axminster late last night. Firefighters from the town and Charmouth attended an initial report of a three-vehicle collision in Chard Road at 10.26pm. It was later ascertained the incident involved just two vehicles. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said a report, received from police, stated a person was trapped inside one of the vehicles. Police have issued an update in relation to an ongoing investigation into an incident involving an alleged firearm in Axminster late on Friday night. Following earlier reports, police now say: “As a result of extensive investigations, a 34-year-old male suspect was arrested by armed officers at an address in Dorset in the early hours of Sunday 25 August on suspicion of attempted murder. A terminally-ill pensioner from Colyton has praised the Hospiscare@Home service, saying East Devon residents are ‘lucky’ to have such personal end-of-life care. Widower Charles Harris, 81 from Colyton, was diagnosed with asbestos-related lung cancer in 2018 and opted for palliative care instead of chemotherapy. A newly-opened not-for-profit waffle house in Axminster is giving diners the chance to ‘pay it forward’ and treat someone struggling to afford food and drink. The aptly-named Waffle, in West Street, is dishing up special tokens so kind-hearted customers can boost someone less fortunate.
