Man ‘medically trapped’ in Axminster crash

A man was left ‘medically trapped’ in a vehicle following a collision in Axminster late last night.

Firefighters from the town and Charmouth attended an initial report of a three-vehicle collision in Chard Road at 10.26pm. It was later ascertained the incident involved just two vehicles.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said a report, received from police, stated a person was trapped inside one of the vehicles.

A spokesperson said: “On arrival, the Incident Commander confirmed a road traffic collision involving two vehicles, with one male trapped.

“Crews quickly got to work to make the vehicles safe and assisted ambulance crews to release the casualty who was medically trapped.

“A female casualty from the second vehicle was also tended to by paramedics on scene.”

Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement: “Police were called at around 10.15pm on Monday 26 August with reports of a three-vehicle road traffic collision on Chard Road, Axminster., with one person trapped.

“Ambulance and the fire service were also called to the scene. The male driver of one of the vehicles was extracted by firefighters and taken to hospital. The extent of his injuries is not known.

“The road was cleared by 12.15am.”
