‘Twas Christmas Day in the Workhouse is the topic of the next Coffee Time Talk in Budleigh Salterton. Taking place in the Peter Hall on Wednesday, December 4, the talk will be delivered by Ken Atherton Doors will open at 10.30am for an 11am start. A free suicide prevention and awareness talk being held at the Budleigh Hub this month will help stop the stigma in East Devon, creating safer communities. The suicide awareness talk, on Tuesday November 19, at 2.30pm-4pm and 6pm-7.30pm, at the Budleigh Health and Wellbeing Hub, East Budleigh Road, is suitable for anyone aged over 15 years old. The 90-minute free session, with Action to Prevent Suicide, aims to deal openly with the stigma attached to suicide, common myths, and how communities can support prevention work. Brian Portch will give a talk about ‘Richard Caton Woodville – War Artist’ at the next Coffee Time Talk in Budleigh Salterton. Richard Caton Woodville (1856-1927) was an English artist and illustrator, best-known for being one of the most prolific and effective painters of battle scenes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Twenty-one of his paintings are in the Royal Collection. A further 23 have been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Learn lifesaving skills and sign up for a free family first aid morning in Budleigh Salterton. Budleigh Salterton Medical Centre patient participation group is hosting the event at the Public Hall, in Station Road, on Saturday, November 2, from 10am until noon. All are welcome. Adults are invited to take children along to learn essential first aid. The former head of the Army General Sir Mike Jackson will be in Budleigh Salterton on Saturday, November 16, sharing the highs and lows of his career. The one-off event has been organised by Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival to raise funds for the festival’s Education Outreach programme. The former Chief of the General Staff and Head of the Army will share personal anecdotes and examples of success and failure throughout his career, spanning almost 45 years. Free lifesaving CPR training sessions are being held in Budleigh Salterton and at an East Devon farm shop on Wednesday, to coincide with The British Red Cross’s Restart a Heart Day. Budleigh Hub, in East Budleigh Road, is offering free defibrillation and CPR training sessions on October 16, at 2pm, 4pm and again at 6.30pm. Places are still available. Greendale Farm Shop, on the Sidmouth Road, near Farringdon, is running free CPR and defib training in its cafe on Wednesday, October 16, 6pm-7pm in conjunction with charity Jay’s AIM. Training at Greendale is limited to 30 spaces, by ticket only.…
