These feral kittens were among 10 found on a farm in East Devon who now have new homes, prompting celebrations from Honiton animal sanctuary volunteers. The Queen has recognised the efforts of a woman from Exmouth who 30 years ago founded a community transport lifeline to help combat loneliness. Jill Elson, who set up the Exmouth and District Community Transport Group in November 1990, last month received the royal recognition when she was presented with an MBE by the Lord Lieutenant of Devon, David Fursdon – thanking her on behalf of the Queen for her political and community service in the town. The Environment Agency (EA) on Friday (October 29) warned of deep flooding in areas of East Devon after a night over heavy overnight rain. Rain falling into the River Clyst area on Thursday night into Friday morning caused water levels to rise, and prompted the EA to warn of flooding to roads. A young child who fell from a first-floor window in Honiton High Street earlier this month has been discharged from hospital, police said. Police said a local man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of child neglect and released on bail to return on September 2, pending further enquries. Officers were called to a Honiton town centre property at around 11.35am on Sunday, August 8, and a child was airlifted to Bristol Children’s Hospital and treated for a head injury. A court has heard how a man who alleges he was sexually assaulted as a child by former Exmouth mayor John Humphreys told police he orchestrated further meetings by waiting at public loos. Humphreys, aged 59, of Hartley Road, is on trial at Exeter Crown Court accused of historic sex offences against two underage boys. A laptop, dashcam and other items were stolen during daylight from a vehicle after its windows were smashed while parked at an East Devon beauty spot on Monday, July 26, police said. The theft at Woodbury Common has prompted Devon and Cornwall Police to warn motorists against leaving valuables in vehicles while parked in remote areas. Police are warning Exmouth residents about reports of a man going door-to-door selling housewares from a backpack. Devon and Cornwall Police said the salesman, described as young and white, has been offering ‘low grade’ items for high prices. Firefighters from Honiton tackled a bin store blaze in Wilmington on Wednesday night (February 10) after ‘multiple’ calls to raise the alarm were received. When the crews arrived shortly before 11pm they found a bin store well alight. Fire crews wore breathing apparatus and used jets to tackle the blaze.
