Fun for all the family with free-to-enter events for prizes are planned for this year’s Sidmouth Regatta. The two-day gala, Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25, will help boost funds for the RNLI through donations. Saturday’s entertainment includes traditional sea-based activities, a raft race, live music and fireworks, plus Exmouth RNLI’s lifeboat. Family fun for all ages takes place on Sunday. It’s official – East Devon beaches are among the best in the country, with four winning prestigious awards from environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. A coveted Blue Flag, along with a Seaside Award, has been presented to Exmouth. Sidmouth Town Beach wins a Seaside Award and non-bathing awards have been given to both Budleigh Salterton and Seaton. Just 208 awards have been handed out nationally this year and only 71 were Blue Flags. Local organisations could be contracted to deliver services at health hubs in local hospitals. A plan to roll out health hubs across East Devon is currently in the embryonic stage. Taking in Honiton, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Axminster and Seaton, the hubs could one day be used to supplement existing NHS and voluntary services. District and county councillor Phil Twiss told Honiton Town Council in a report that the hubs will fill gaps created by funding cuts.
