Shoppers can make the most of free parking at a trio of major multi-storey facilities in Exeter on Thursday evenings. The new offer applies to the Guildhall, John Lewis and Mary Arches Street car parks after 6pm. Exeter City Council has introduced the initiative to ‘support Thursday late-night shopping and the wider evening economy’. It is also aimed at ‘spreading the peak of Saturday shopping and easing congestion on the roads,’ says the authority. Recycling residents in Exeter want to see glass and food waste collections, a survey of nearly 2,000 people has revealed. Kerbside pick-ups of the two types of rubbish are top of the wish-list according to Exeter City Council. It is perhaps a sign of our times that people are thinking about the environment…Almost 500 people said they wanted to see recycling collections on a weekly basis. Of the additional materials householders wanted to see collected from home, food waste (70 per cent of respondents) and glass (86 per cent) were the most popular options. A huge tower crane is making light work of the massive construction project under way to create a UK-first super-energy-efficient leisure centre in Exeter. The striking red crane will be a major landmark in the city centre over the coming months as construction on the Exeter Bus Station site gathers pace. Musical line-up for Exeter Festival 2019 revealed

The line-up of local bands and musicians performing at this summer’s Exeter Festival has been revealed. A free afternoon of music takes place in Northernhay Gardens on Saturday, July 6, before the Hoosiers and Joey The Lips Acts were earlier this year invited to pitch for a slot at the festival, which runs from July 5-7. A total of 29 musicians and local bands applied to play and these were whittled down to a final six by a judging panel which included local radio presenter Chris Dinnis.
