Wales & West Utilities announced this week it has completed work to upgrade gas pipes in Colyton ahead of the planned six-month schedule. A series of road closures spanning several months has been announced for the East Devon town of Colyton as work continues to upgrade the town’s gas pipes. Wales & West Utilities said it was ‘progressing well’ with its work to upgrade gas pipes in the King Street area of Colyton, which started in September. A memory café in East Devon is celebrating a windfall from the county council to pay for extra transport so more people can attend its sessions. The Colyton and Colyford Memory Café has been awarded a grant from Devon County Council’s Connecting You fund, for use providing door-to-door transport for those keen to attend the monthly event. Towns across East Devon have joined forces with MP Simon Jupp in calling for the district council to fully reopen its tax-payer-funded headquarters to the public. Calls for Colyford to have its own sense of identity and parish council are a step closer to becoming reality through the launch of a public consultation. East Devon District Council (EDDC) has published proposals for creating a new council for the proposed new parish of Colyford after residents launched a bid to break away from neighbouring Colyton. EDDC said a three-month consultation had begun, ending on November 22, and outlined the proposals on the table for creating a new parish boundary and council. Firefighters who tackled a car blaze near Seaton have praised a motorist for immediately leaving their vehicle when they smelled burning. A crew from Colyton was called to Boshill Cross, near Seaton, on Sunday (September 25), where they brought the blaze under control using fire-fighting foam. The driver of the car called the emergency services after noticing the smell of smoke, the fire service said.
