Exmouth and Sidmouth headteachers have spoken of their pride in their students after A level success was celebrated across East Devon.
The long wait was over for students at Sidmouth College and Exmouth Community College on Thursday (August 13) as they received their results after years of hard work.
There were smiles at Sidmouth College after 100 per cent of students who applied to university received an offer, including places at Russell Group universities such as Bath, Newcastle, Exeter, Cardiff and Liverpool.
The college said there was a ‘significant’ increase in the number of sixth form students achieving grades A*–C or equivalent across A-level and applied courses compared to last year.

Results in applied courses, such as Health and Social Care and Sport Studies, were particularly strong, with students achieving an average grade of Distinction* and progress significantly above the national average.
And there were solid outcomes across a number of A-level subjects, with progress significantly above the national average in subjects including Biology, History, Photography and Art.

Laura Gosdon, who achieved an A* in English Literature, A in Geography and A in History has plans to study History at university.
Grace Hodgson, awarded a B in Biology, C in Chemistry and C in Maths, is going on to study adult nursing at Exeter University.

Luke Rudgard achieved a Double Distinction in BTEC Sport and is going on to a degree apprenticeship in Sports Business Management at the University of Hertfordshire, sponsored by his workplace David Lloyd in Exeter.
And Lizzie Burman is off to study Interior Design at Falmouth University after achieving an A in EPQ, A* in Art and Design, A in DT and B in Media Studies.

Ruby Lindley, who is set to begin her Adult Nursing degree at the University of Exeter, was presented with the Reading List Foundation Scholarship Award by Sidmouth College, earning her £275 worth of textbook vouchers in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements, resilience, determination and character showed throughout her A-level studies.

Alex Evans, Sidmouth College headteacher, said staff were ‘incredibly proud’ of all the students had accomplished.
He said: “Our sixth form students have thrown themselves into every aspect of college life, from pursuing their academic interests to contributing to the local community. It has been a privilege to see them develop during their time with us, and we wish every one of them every success. Whatever their chosen destination, we look forward to seeing all they go on to achieve.”

Exmouth Community College celebrated some of its strongest sets of results overall, with pass rates rising significantly, improvements at all grade thresholds at A Level and vocational qualifications – such as BTECs – also performing very strongly.

There were a number of outstanding performances from students. Lyra Berndt secured A*AA and will now take a gap year. Tom Lowrie, who attained AAAB to study Materials and Engineering Science. Ned Allwood, who achieved AAAB, will read Geography at Plymouth University. Lilah Mardle, with A*AB, will read English also at Plymouth University. Freya Davey, with AAB, will study Social Sciences at Durham University. In vocational subjects Summer Alford secured two Distinction ‘stars’ and a further Distinction.
Tom Inman, Exmouth Community College headteacher, said: “We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and the commitment they have shown throughout their time at Exmouth sixth form.
“We pride ourselves on being a really comprehensive sixth form and it’s wonderful to see so many students meet and surpass their own personal targets, sometimes in very challenging circumstances.”
