Police appeal for information after woman dies in car crash near Budleigh Salterton

A woman has died after a car crashed in field near Budleigh Salterton on Sunday night (May 3).

Police were called to the B3178 East Budleigh Road where they found a car had left the road, the woman driver dead at the scene and her passenger needing hospital treatment for minor injuries.

Officers investigating the crash are appealing for any information or dashcam footage.

The East Budleigh Road was closed for around 12 hours, reopening to traffic the following morning after crash scene investigations had finished.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Officers are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal collision at Budleigh Salterton.

“Police were called at around 9pm on Sunday 3 May to the B3178, East Budleigh Road, following a report of a single vehicle collision.

“It was reported that the vehicle had left the road and come to rest in a field.

“The driver of the car was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

“A passenger was taken to hospital to be checked for minor injuries.”

The force spokesperson added: “Officers from the roads policing team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the road was closed for an investigation to be carried out.

“The road was reopened at around 9am on Monday 4 May.”
