Police investigating reports of a ‘body’ discovered in a rural area of East Devon have confirmed the find was not human remains.
Forensic officers were called to woodland near Awliscombe, in East Devon, on Saturday morning (October 18) after mystery bones were uncovered.
On Sunday (October 19) Devon and Cornwall Police said further enquiries showed the remains found were not human.
The force said all police cordons and road closures in place while investigations were ongoing have now been removed.
A spokesperson for the police thanked the public for complying with access restrictions while site investigations took place.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “On Saturday 18 October, we were called to reports of a body being found in a rural location near Awliscombe.
“Further enquiries have identified the remains were not human.
“The police cordon and road closures that had been established at the scene have all been stood down.
“We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and support.”
Police were called to Awliscombe, near Honiton to investigate an ‘incident’ reported to officers shortly before 11.30am.
A force spokesperson said officers responded to ‘reports of a body being found in the rural location there’.
Police cordoned off the area ‘for quite some time’ and set up road closures while the uncovered remains were removed.
A forensic probe revealed they were non-human.
