A prolific shoplifter from Exeter has been jailed for almost a year and banned from shops across the city.
Stevie Lee Palmer, aged 32, of no fixed abode in Exeter, was this month slapped with a 52-week jail sentence after appearing at Exeter Magistrates’ Court and admitting multiple shoplifting offences and breaching bail conditions.
Palmer was also banned for the next three years from entering multiple stores in Exeter city centre, on Exe bridges, in St Thomas and Alphington.
When cops totalled up the goods stolen by Palmer it was found to be almost £1,500, who said the thefts would have had ‘a significant impact’ on the businesses.

Police thanked shop workers and the public for reporting Palmer’s thieving antics, bringing him to justice.
Sergeant Matt Beards, who leads Exeter city centre neighbourhood policing team, said: “Shop theft is not a victimless crime. Goods stolen by Palmer totalled £1480.20, and we recognise that this would have had a significant impact on local businesses.
“We also understand that these offences can also be challenging for people working in the affected shops, and I would like to thank each and every person who reported thefts and provided evidence that allowed us to target this offender.”
He added: “The criminal behaviour order is a proactive tool that will help us to manage Palmer robustly when he is eventually released, and we will continue to work with local retailers to bring thieves to justice.”
Palmer was handed a 52-week jail sentence when he appeared at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on August 7, where he pleaded guilty to 15 charges of shop theft.
Magistrates heard Palmer also admit 31 shoplifting offences and seven counts of breaching bail conditions, which they took into consideration when sentencing him.
He was jailed for 52 weeks and slapped with a Criminal Behaviour Order, banning him from going into numerous Exeter city centre stores, and a number of shops on Exe bridges, in St Thomas and Alphington.
