Months of work to upgrade the gas pipe network in Seaton – featuring temporary traffic lights and a road closure – will begin on Monday, September 23.
It is hoped the £151,000 scheme by Wales and West Utilities in the Harepath Road area will be finished just before Christmas.
The bid will see temporary traffic lights placed in Seaton Down Road and Colyford Road and a near two-month closure in Court Lane.
Wales and West Utilities says the work is ‘essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come’.
The firm has has worked closely with Devon County Council and agreed a traffic management plan which includes:
- Two-way traffic lights in Seaton Down Road, which will then change to three-way traffic lights on its junction with Harepath Road. These will be in place between September 23 andNovember 8 and will be manually controlled between 7am and30pm each day;
- A road closure in Court Lane from October 28 to December 20;
- Two-way traffic lights in Colyford Road on dates yet to be confirmed.
Wales & West Utilities’ Roxanne Whittaker is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said: “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Seaton. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
