Police cordoned off public gardens in Sidmouth town centre after a reports of sex attack on Thursday evening (February 1).
Officers are investigating reports of a sex attack said to have happened in Blackmore Gardens, in Sidmouth, at around 5.30pm.
Police are supporting the victim and want to hear from anyone with information, or witnesses.
Detectives remained at the scene on Friday (February 2) while forensic officers scoured the scene.
A police patrol car was spotted parked outside ornate metal gates at the entrance to the gardens, blocking the way in.
A police spokesperson said the victim was being supported by trained officers while further enquiries were made.
The force spokesperson said: “Police were called to reports of a sexual assault in Sidmouth.
“Officers are currently at the scene and have closed off Blackmore Gardens, where the incident is believed to have taken place at around 5.30pm on Thursday 1 February.”
They added: “The victim is being supported by specially trained officers while enquiries continue into the incident.
“Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.”
