Detectives charge a 16-year-old boy in connection with a stabbing in Exeter

Detectives have charged a 16-year-old boy in connection with a serious assault in Topsham, Exeter, where a man was stabbed on his way to buy a computer.

Earlier this month, police launched an appeal after receiving reports a man in his 30s was seriously injured, and needed hospital treatment, after he was stabbed in the arm in Majorfield Road, Topsham, at around 8pm on Friday, January 5.

Police said a 16-year-old boy from Exeter was arrested shortly after on suspicion of GBH with intent. He has since been released with no further action.

Another boy, also aged 16, has since been charged with attempted robbery, GBH with intent, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, said police.
He appeared at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, January 20.

Detectives want to hear from another witness who may have been threatened in the same area of Topsham in mid-December, believing they could help with ongoing enquiries.

Detective Inspector Michelle Westlake said: “We are now seeking a further witness who we believe may have been threatened by an unknown person on the same road on Wednesday 20 December 2023.

“This person may hold valuable information which could help with our enquiries.”

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Detectives have charged a 16-year-old boy in connection with a serious assault in Topsham which happened on Friday 5 January.

“Officers received reports that a man in his 30s had been assaulted on Majorfield Road between 8.15pm and 8.30pm, after having gone to meet a stranger who was selling a computer.
