East Devon: Police appeal for crash witnesses after a motorcyclist, 31, dies near Axminster

Police investigating a crash in East Devon where a motorcyclist died near Axminster are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.

Officers were called to reports of a crash involving a Range Rover and a motorbike on the A358 Chard Road, Axminster, at the junction with South Common Road, shortly before 9am on Wednesday, June 28.

The 31-year-old rider of the motorbike, a man from the Axminster area, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Range Rover was uninjured. A woman passenger was slightly injured, police said.

The road was closed until late afternoon while police carried out a forensic examination of the crash scene.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the A358 outside Axminster on Wednesday 28 June are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

“Officers were called to reports of a collision involving a Range Rover and a motorcycle on A358 Chard Road, Axminster, at the junction with South Common Road, at around 8.44am.

“The rider of the motorcycle, a 31-year-old man from the Axminster area, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

“The driver of the car was uninjured, and his front seat female passenger sustained slight injuries.

“Police closed the road to conduct an examination of the scene. It was reopened at around 4.30pm.”

The police spokesperson added: “Officers would like to thank the members of public for their patience and consideration while this investigation took place.”
