A woman has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a police incident on the M5 near Exeter which saw the motorway shut.
Officers were called to the scene at around 2.20pm on Sunday, July 3, after concern was raised for the welfare of a woman on a bridge between junctions 28 and 29.
She subsequently fell, said a police spokesperson this evening.
The woman fell and was airlifted to hospital with what are currently believed to be serious injuries…
Traffic was stopped with long delays reported in the area.
Officers said at around 5pm that the southbound carriageway had reopened but the northbound remained shut.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Officer were called at 2.20pm today [Sunday, July 3] to the M5 between junctions 28 and 29 following reports of concern for a woman located on a bridge.
“Officers attended the scene.
“Subsequently, the woman fell and was airlifted to hospital with what are currently believed to be serious injuries.
“The southbound carriageway has since reopened but the northbound carriageway remains closed at this time.”
