Firefighters wore breathing apparatus to tackle a blaze in Honiton that broke out in an outbuilding used to keep white goods.
Fire crews from Honiton and Ottery St Mary were on Friday (April 8) lunchtime called to a property after receiving several reports of a tumble drier blaze in an outbuilding.
When the crews arrived shortly after 1.30pm, they found a fire involving a washing machine, two tumble driers and a fridge freezer.
Firefighters removed the appliances outside then used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames, a thermal imaging camera to check the fire was out, and fans to clear smoke from the building.
The fire service said the cause of the blaze was accidental.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) spokesperson said: “Fire control received several calls of a fire at a property in Honiton. The initial reports suggested that the tumble drier was on fire in the outbuilding.
“The fire was confirmed by crews in the outbuilding, joined to the main property, where there was a fire involving a washing machine, two tumble driers and a fridge freezer which were all removed to open air by fire crews.”
DSFRS said crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one thermal imaging camera, and a positive ventilation fan to deal with the incident.
The DSFRS spokesperson said: “The cause of the fire was accidental.”
