Man, 20, is arrested on suspicion of the rape of a male in Exeter city centre as police appeal for information

Police are appealing for information in connection to an allegation of the rape of a man in Exeter city centre in the early hours of Tuesday morning (March 29).

Devon and Cornwall Police cordoned off an area around St Sidwell’s Church, Exeter, after it was reported a man was raped between 4am and 5.15am.

A 20-year-old man from the Exeter area was arrested on suspicion of rape and he remains in police custody, the force said.

Investigating officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating an allegation of a rape of a man that is believed to have taken place in the early hours of Tuesday 29 March.

“It is believed that the assault took place sometime between 4am-5.15am on the grounds surrounding St Sidwell’s Church, Exeter.

“A 20-year-old man from the Exeter area has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody.

“Anyone with any information, or who was in the area during the time of the attack is asked to contact police.”
