East Devon pre-school’s garden makeover gives youngsters all-weather play fun

Youngsters at a pre-school in East Devon can now play outside in all weathers thanks to a garden makeover.

These photos show the finished work to a play area at West Hill pre-school, near Ottery St Mary, which was made possible thanks to fundraising.

The aim of the new-look garden is to encourage the youngsters to discover the outdoors through play and exploration.

A spokesperson for the West Hill pre-school said: “Our wonderful new covered area and garden make over is already making a huge difference to our setting.

“It will allow us to use the outdoor space in all weathers.

“The plan was to create a play area that will fill children with curiosity and wonder, embedding a love for the outdoors.”

The refurbished garden area, funded by the pre-school committee, has a new canopy so the children can go outside in all weathers, a re-turfed grassed area and a new tunnel and pathway for exploration and play.

The pre-school spokesperson said: “We love being outside with free-flow play, whenever possible, to allow children to play where they are most interested and engaged.”

They added: “I would like to thank the pre-school committee for their endless support and fundraising to make it possible and the village hall for their support in allowing us to make this space happen.”
