Seven weeks of temporary traffic lights for main route in Exmouth for ‘green future’ gas pipe upgrade

Temporary traffic lights lasting seven weeks are set for Salterton Road from Monday (February 14) as ‘essential’ work to upgrade gas pipes for a greener Exmouth is set to start.

Wales & West Utilities said the work is expected to last seven weeks, ending on Friday, April 1, providing there are no engineering difficulties.

Two or three-way temporary traffic lights will be in place on Salterton Road while the work is carried out, the utilities company said.

Wales & West Utilities said the upgraded network would be able to transport hydrogen and biomethane, for ‘a green future’.

The company said it aimed to complete the work quickly in a bid to keep any disruption to a minimum.

Wales & West Utilities Jake Sami, who is managing this gas pipe upgrade work, said: “This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.

“We will work as safely and as quickly as possible to finish the work, whilst keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users.”

He added: “While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Exmouth.

“Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.”

Wales & West Utilities said it will start essential work next week to upgrade part of the gas network in Exmouth.

It said the work to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses will begin on February 14 in the Salterton Road area of the town.

Barring any unforeseen engineering difficulties, it will be complete by April 1, Wales & West Utilities said.

A spokesperson for the company said: “The gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Devon County Council to plan the work and it has been agreed that rolling two and three-way traffic lights will be used on Salterton Road throughout the scheme.”
