Vote for Exmouth Scouts to win £1,000 to make much-needed repairs to troop hall

Scouts in Exmouth needs your vote to help to win building materials worth £1,000 needed to repair the troop’s hall in Withycombe Raleigh.

RGB Building Supplies has named 7th Exmouth Scout group as a finalist in its Surprise Supplies giveaway, with the winner being decided through a public vote.

Voting takes place between Monday, February 14, and 8am on Monday, February 28, by liking the All Saints Scout troop’s photo on the building firm’s Facebook page, or by email.

Votes made outside these times will not be counted.

The building firm said the Scout hall in Marpool Hill was ‘in extremely poor condition’ and winning the supplies would enable the troop to make renovations to make it a welcoming place for the youngsters and the wider community.

Jason Hurley, RGB Exmouth branch manager, said two winners would be selected to each win £1,000.

He said: “For our latest Surprise Supplies call out we received over 150 nominations from across the region, so congratulations to 7th Exmouth Scout Troop for being chosen as a finalist.

“The group does fantastic work to support young people in our area and, as its local RGB branch, we want to encourage our community to show their support and vote.”

The building company said over the past two years the 7th Exmouth Scout troop had ‘worked tirelessly’ to help minimise the mental effects felt through a lack of social interaction because of the Covid-19 lockdowns.

While the troop met virtually as much as possible, membership fell as face-to-face contact was lost, RGB Building Supplies said.

A spokesperson for RGB Building Supplies said: “Now the troop is able to reconnect with young people and it has welcomed new Scouts.

“However, the troop’s hall in Marpool Hill is in extremely poor condition and, if voted as a Surprise Supplies winner, the troop will use the £1,000 worth of materials to renovate the hall to make it a welcoming place for members and the wider community.”

The Scout group is up against Bridgerule CofE Primary School, Holsworthy, Cedar Grange Care Home in Launceston, Chilled Out Youth Space in Torquay, Exeter Community Initiatives, Gilead Foundations in Okehampton, Ilfracombe and North Devon Sub Aqua Club, In the Mix Project in Wiveliscombe, Swimbridge Primary School and Woodside Animal Welfare Trust in Plymouth.

Votes can be made by visiting RGB’s Facebook page here, and liking the photo in the Surprise Supplies album that represents the group being voted for, or by emailing and putting the name of the group in the subject line.
