Police appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage after man in his 80s is seriously injured in crash at Sidmouth

Police are investigating a crash at Sidmouth where a man in his 80s was seriously injured.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after two cars crashed on the A3052 at Sidmouth at around 3.30pm on Friday, December 3.

Police said three people, all over the age of 70, were taken to hospital.

The crash was between black Renault Clio and a blue VW Exclusive.

The driver of the Clio, a man in his 80s, was taken to Derriford hospital, in Plymouth, with serious injuries.

Also taken to hospital with injuries, which police described as ‘less serious’ was the passenger in the Clio, a woman in her 80s, and the driver of the other car, a man in his 70s.

The road reopened around 10.30pm after the police scene investigation ended.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police were called shortly after 2.30pm on Friday 3 December to the A3052 at Sidmouth following reports of a two-vehicle collision.

“The collision involved a black Renault Clio and a blue VW Exclusive.

“The driver of the Clio, a man in his 80s was taken to Derriford hospital with serious injuries.

“The passenger in the Clio, a woman in her 80s, plus the driver of the VW who is a man in his 70s was also both taken to hospital but with less serious injuries.

“The road was closed for eight hours as investigation work at the scene took place; police would like to thank the public for their patience during this time.”

The spokesman added: “Officers are appealing for witnesses and would also like to hear from anyone with dashcam footage that could assist with enquiries.”
