Police warn East Devon residents to be aware of ‘suspicious’ van seen hunting for scrap metal at farm near Budleigh Salterton

A ‘suspicious’ white transit van seen in the Budleigh Salterton area, on the hunt for scrap metal, has prompted police to warn East Devon residents.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a white twin cab Ford Transit van with black sides and sign writing was spotted driving into the entrance of a farm in the Knowle area, slowly scanning the property, then leaving.

The vehicle was seen at 12.50pm on Wednesday, November 10, said police.

Colin Balch, PCSO based at Exmouth, said no offence was committed, but urged the public to be aware of the ‘suspicious circumstances’.

He said: “Police would like you to be aware of the following suspicious circumstances. The incident took place at 12.50 on Wednesday 10th November.

“A white twin cab Ford Transit van with black sides drove into the entrance to a farm in the Knowle area.

“The van slowly toured around the farm looking for scrap metal and then left.

“The van is believed to have sign writing on the sides possibly in the form of Q&A.

“No offences have been committed but you are asked to be aware of it should it be seen in your area.”
