A distraction burglar swiped cash and a gold watch from an Exmouth home after gaining entry by claiming she had lost her cat.
Police are urging residents to be wary and appealing for information after a property in Lyndhurst Road was targeted on the morning of Thursday, October 21.
The householder answered their door to a woman who said she was searching for her pet before entering the address.
It was only later that the resident noticed money and the timepiece, pictured, were gone.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information in connection with a report of what is believed to be a distraction burglary to a property in the area of Lyndhurst Road, Exmouth.
“A resident answered the door to a woman stating she had lost her cat and entered the property.
“It was later noticed that cash and watch was stolen – described as a Tudor gold watch with black strap.
“This took place at approximately 11am on Thursday, October 21.
“Please can residents be wary of this.
“Anyone offered a similar watch or with information/CCTV in the area mentioned is asked to contact 101 by emailing email@example.com quoting crime CR/093060/21.”
