Firefighters tackle vehicle blaze in dual carriageway lay-by near Ottery St Mary

Firefighters tackled a blaze near Ottery St Mary on Friday lunchtime (August 20) after a vehicle caught fire in a lay-by on the A30.

Crews from Honiton and Middlemoor fire stations were called to a lay-by between Daisymount and Patteson’s Cross shortly before 1.30pm.

The fire service said the vehicle was ‘severely’ damaged by the blaze.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire crews attended a vehicle fire in a lay-by on the A30 eastbound between Daisymount and Patteson’s Cross.

“On arrival, crews confirmed the vehicle to be well alight.

“The fire was extinguished using one compressed air foam jet, one main jet, one thermal imaging camera and hydraulic spreaders were used to gain access to part of the vehicle.

“The vehicle was severely damaged by fire.”
