Free workshops to help communities net slice of £50,000 East Devon crowdfunding cash

More free crowdfunding workshops are being offered by East Devon District Council (EDDC) to help communities net a slice of £50,000.

Voluntary groups and other not-for-profit organisations are being encouraged to apply for the cash.

The authority has so far boosted ten projects to the tune of a total of £49,000 in grants.

They include £3,500 for Pippins Community Centre in Axminster, £4,867 for the Budleigh Salterton Community Workshop and £9,000 to a project to provide beach wheelchairs for the disabled in Exmouth.

Crowdfunding enables organisations, including town and parish councils, to raise money online in one place to help make their project happen.

EDDC is running two free sessions on Tuesday, September 7, from 9.30am to 11am, and on Wednesday, September 8, from 5pm to 6.30pm.

Councillor Jack Rowland, portfolio holder for finance, said: “I’d encourage eligible groups who are not familiar with the crowdfunding process to take advantage of one of the free workshops.

“By obtaining pledges to a project and reaching the target then access to a grant from East Devon District Council is available as can be seen from the examples of successful projects.”
