‘Urgent’ call for help to ensure Sidmouth Air Show has a future

An ‘urgent’ call has been made for more volunteers to give two hours and help collect donations at the Sidmouth Air Show later this month.

Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce has thanked those who have already pledged to help out on Friday, August 27, but is appealing for more collectors to ensure the event can be held in the future.

Volunteer collectors are needed from 5pm until 7pm, while the air show takes place.

To help, email the Chamber of Commerce by midday on Friday, August 20.

David Cook, the town’s Chamber of Commerce chairman, said: “Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce thanks those who have already put names forward to be collectors at this superb event, which although arranged by Sidmouth Town Council does need to be funded by donations from visitors on the day.”

He added: “We urgently need more volunteer collectors to be among the many thousands who will watch the show.

“The event attracts large numbers of visitors and local residents, most of whom spend some hours in the town, with many staying after. And this annual event – albeit cancelled due to Covid last year- can only continue if Sidmouth Town Council receive enough financial support.

“So please get involved for just a couple of hours so that Sidmouth businesses can benefit from this event in the future.”

If you can help, email David Cook chairman@sidmouthchamber.co.uk. by midday on August 20.
