Ottery and Exeter firefighters called to worktop blaze in Aylesbeare

Firefighters from Ottery St Mary and Exeter tackled a blaze involving a wooden worktop on an electric oven at a home in Aylesbeare this morning (Sunday, July 11).

A trio of crews were called to the East Devon village at around 9.50am.

They donned breathing apparatus and used a hose-reel jet to extinguish the blaze.

The worktop was destroyed by the fire.

Crews from Ottery and Middlemoor attended.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Three fire engines attended a small fire involving a wooden worktop on an electrical oven.

“Crews used two breathing apparatus and a hose-reel jet to extinguish the fire as well as a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke from the rest of the property.

“The fire was confined to the worktop, which was completely destroyed by fire.”
