Man stuck in mud and water in Exeter river is freed by firefighters in early-hours rescue

A man stuck in mud and water in a river in Exeter in the early hours of Sunday morning (June 27) was rescued by firefighters.

The specialist water rescue team from Exmouth fire station and crews from Danes Castle and Middlemoor rescued the man using specialist equipment and wading poles.

The man, who was discovered by police shortly after 3.30am, was left with the ambulance service after the rescue.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire control mobilised two appliances from Danes Castle and Middlemoor and the specialist water rescue team from Exmouth to assist with the rescue of a male who was stuck in water and mud in a river in Exeter.

“The male casualty was located by police and rescued from the water by fire service personnel using water rescue equipment and wading poles.

“The male was left in the hands of the ambulance service.”
