Road in Exeter is closed for two hours by police after concern is raised for woman’s welfare

Police closed a road into Exeter on Thursday morning (June 17) after a concern was raised for the welfare of a woman.

Access from Pinhoe village to Cumberland Way was restricted from around 11.45am as police set up a road block, closing the route in the area of Pinhoe Road bridge for around two hours.

Traffic and pedestrians were diverted while police carried out enquiries.

The road reopened shortly after 1pm, police said.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokeswoman said: “Police negotiators spent time talking to a woman in distress and she has been taken to a place of safety under the Mental Health Act.

“The incident was resolved around 1pm with road re-opening shortly afterwards.”
