Broadcaster and TV presenter Jeremy Vine trounced a mad scientist in Exmouth when he and his family returned to town to tackle an escape room.
Jeremy discovered Excape escape rooms, in Rolle Street, in 2019, vowing to revisit and tackle another challenge after his family defeated a Sherlock Holmes puzzle.
Following his latest visit, Journalist Jeremy championed the ‘absolutely brilliant’ attraction, calling it ‘fantastic family time in the centre of Exmouth’.
Dan Tribble, Excape owner, said he and his wife, Helen, were ‘thrilled’ when the BBC Radio 2 presenter booked his family a return visit after the visitor attraction reopened in May amid the relaxation of Covid-19 lockdown rules.
Dan said: “When we knew the lockdown restrictions were being lifted and we could reopen in May, we emailed our mailing list to let everyone know and were thrilled when we saw that Jeremy and his family had booked to come back and take on our second room, E=MC Scared.
“They are such a lovely family. It was great to see them having fun together as they tried to escape our mad scientist, and we couldn’t be more grateful to them for taking the time to post about us and leave such wonderful reviews.”
Jeremy, who regularly stays in East Devon, took to social media to praise the escape room game – where a mad scientist uploads your brain – saying his teenage children ‘love it’.
He wrote: “Absolutely brilliant, total attention to detail, fun for all the family, so creative.
“We had a great welcome from Dan and Helen who have obviously used lockdown to make their rooms even better.
‘Excaping’ within one hour is a real challenge. We were a family of four and at fourteen and seventeen our (usually unimpressed) daughters became completely engrossed.
“We’ve now done the Mad Scientist room and the Sherlock Holmes room and both really stretch your mind.
“What’s lovely is that it really makes you work as a unit so you end up troubleshooting the problems together.
“Very central in Exmouth and very professional, but with a huge sense of fun — you can tell that Dan and Helen love their work.”
In a separate post he said: “If you are near Exmouth, I do recommend the Excape: Exmouth Escape Rooms — they now have a room where you have to escape before the Mad Scientist uploads your brain; and of course the brilliant Sherlock Holmes escape room. My teenagers love it — and Dan and Helen are shortlisted for Small Business of the Year in this area, yay! Fantastic family time in centre of Exmouth.”
While in Exmouth, Jeremy was also spotted on the seafront ‘mucking around on the beach’ where he took photos of the Abode of Love, recently given a facelift by community artist Anna Fitzgerald, sharing the images with his fans on social media.
