Man is airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after cars crash at Budleigh Salterton

A driver was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash at Budleigh Salterton, prompting police to appeal for witnesses.

Devon and Cornwall Police want to hear from anyone who saw the silver Audi A3 and red Kia Nero crash on the B3178 at Budleigh Salterton, at around 7pm on Saturday, May 15.

The driver of the Audi was airlifted to Derriford Hospital by air ambulance, where police said he is being treated for life changing and life-threatening injuries.

Those travelling in the Red Kia were left with minor injuries.

Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has dashcam footage of the area around the time of the collision.

The road was closed for around six hours while officers examined the crash scene.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for witnesses of a collision on the B3178, Budleigh Salterton, on Saturday 15 May, and dashcam footage which may have captured the vehicles involved prior to the incident.

“The collision occurred at around 7pm and involved a silver Audi A3 and a red Kia Nero.

“The driver of the Audi was flown to Derriford Hospital by the air ambulance where he is being treated for life-changing/life-threatening injuries.

“The occupants of the Kia sustained minor injuries.

“Local officers attended the scene alongside Alliance Roads Policing Team officers.

“The road was closed for around six hours while a forensic investigation was conducted.”

The spokesperson added: “Anyone who has any information which could assist the investigation into the circumstances of the collision is asked to contact police.”
