Police investigating attacks in Exeter arrest man, 40, on suspicion of attempted murder

Police investigating serious assaults on a man and a woman in an alleyway in Exeter have arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.

Officers are appealing for information after a man and woman, aged in their 30s and 20s respectively, were allegedly attacked by two people at around 9.30pm on Thursday, May 6, in the Barberry Close area of Whipton.

Police said the man is in hospital in a stable condition.

Investigating officers are appealing for witnesses and information.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: “Police investigating serious assaults on a man and a woman in an alleyway in the Whipton area of Exeter are appealing for information.

“The victims, aged in their 30s and 20s respectively, were allegedly attacked by two people at around 9.30pm on Thursday 6 May in the Barberry Close area.

“Both were seriously injured. The man remains in hospital in a stable condition.

“It is believed all parties involved in the incident are known to each other.

“A 40-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody at this time.

“Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.”
