Police treat death of woman, 39, in Colaton Raleigh as ‘unexplained’

Police are treating the death of a woman – who was found inside a Colaton Raleigh house after officers were called to a shed fire – as ‘unexplained’.  

Emergency services discovered the body of a 39-year-old at a property in the East Devon village, near Sidmouth, in the early hours of Sunday, April 11.

They had initially attended the address following reports of a blaze in the garden.

Her death is being treated as unexplained and a file is being prepared for the coroner…

A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson in relation to the shed fire, according to Devon and Cornwall Police.

A force spokesperson said: “Police have confirmed that the death of a woman at her home in Colaton Raleigh, near Sidmouth, yesterday, Sunday 11 April, is being treated as unexplained.

“Police were called to the property at around 1am having been alerted to a garden shed being on fire.

“Upon attendance, a 39-year-old woman was located deceased inside the nearby house.

“Her death is being treated as unexplained and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

“A 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson in relation to the shed fire and released under investigation pending further enquiries.”
