Small fire in guttering at Ottery St Mary started accidentally

A suspected blaze in a chimney at a property in West Hill turned out to be a small fire involving guttering and timber cladding.

Ottery St Mary firefighters were called to Brackendown at around 5pm on Friday, April 2, after a member of the public raised the alarm.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “On arrival, the Incident Commander confirmed a small fire involving guttering and timber cladding on the property and got crews to work to extinguish the fire using a 10.5m ladder, a hose reel jet and small tools to extinguish fire.

“The fire was thought to have started accidentally.”
