An Ottery St Mary eatery has teamed up with Hospiscare for a festive draw with an amazing top prize – that could be doubly delightful.
Rusty Pig is supporting the charity after Covid-19 drastically affected fundraising events since March.
The Yonder Street restaurant’s Robin Rea, whose family have previously received support from the cause, said: “With all events and public-facing activities cancelled, I want to encourage everyone in the community to get behind the charity and help us raise lots of money for them.
“We’ve put together an amazing top prize for the Ho Ho Hospiscare draw, with some fantastic community-donated runner-up vouchers worth from £15 to £30 for local shops and services.”
The overall winner will scoop a stay at award-winning Mazzard Farm Cottages in Ottery.
They will have full use of all the eco-friendly facilities including 17 acres of woodland, fields, gardens and an orchard, plus spa and pampering services donated by owners Ruud Jansen Venneboer and Jacqueline Parke.
The top prize also includes an evening at Rusty Pig for the surprise tasting menu and complementary wine pairing at the chef’s table.
The final part of the prize is a luxury hamper filled with artisan produce provided by Emily Knight of Knights Farm Shop in Fluxton.
Robin added: “For the winner, this is the ultimate chance to reunite with friends and family members after one of the worst years in living memory.
“And of course, there’s also the option of sharing this incredible getaway as the ultimate Christmas gift.”
The draw takes the form of a ballot; donating £10 to Hospiscare secures one entry, and there is no limit to the number of times people can enter.
So far, donations are at almost £800. And if they reach £2,000, Mazzard Farm and Rusty Pig will donate a second top prize to equal the first.
This will be supplemented with an afternoon tea for four at the nearby Coldharbour Farm Shop.
Local fundraiser Toni Hiscocks said: “This is a fantastic way to donate and be in with the chance of winning an extremely generous prize.
“It’s important that Hospiscare can continue to provide specialist care for people coping with a terminal illness, particularly in these difficult times.
“Hospiscare relies on the fundraising support of the local community and this is a perfect example of how that community rises to the challenge. Good luck everyone!”
Hospiscare is not part of the NHS or any national charity. The charity cares for more than 750 patients at any one time across Exeter, Mid and East Devon.
The prize ballot will be drawn and the winner – or winners – and runners-up revealed at Rusty Pig on December 20 at 8pm.
