Exeter: Residents call 999 after car fire erupts outside homes in Pinhoe street

Firefighters tackled a car blaze outside homes in Pinhoe, Exeter, early this morning (Saturday, November 21).

A crew from Middlemoor was called to Orwell Garth at around 6am following reports the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

Back-up from Danes Castle was also needed as 999 callers said the ‘well-alight’ car was close to properties in the street.

The cause of the blaze was said to be accidental, says the fire service.

Further 999 calls suggested that this vehicle was well-alight and close to properties, so an additional fire engine from Danes Castle was also sent…

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A fire engine from Middlemoor was sent to a report of a car fire.

“Further 999 calls suggested that this vehicle was well-alight and close to properties, so an additional fire engine from Danes Castle was also sent.

“On arrival, crews confirmed the vehicle was well alight, but no properties were involved.

“The engine bay of the vehicle was damaged and the fire was extinguished using two breathing apparatus and one hose-reel jet.

“The cause of the fire was accidental.”
