Exmouth coast watch guardians fly new flag in a safety bid for water users

Coast watchers in Exmouth are flying the flag for water users in a safety bid to highlight wind direction and strength.

Exmouth National Coastwatch Institution (NCI) has raised a new flag on its Queen’s Drive lookout building to raise awareness of the organisation and to help water users.

Ivor Jones, Exmouth NCI station manager, said: “Although Exmouth National Coastwatch Institution is well-known and respected among the town’s residents, we wanted something that would raise our visual profile.

“As part of the area’s search and rescue capability, we also decided that the flag would be an easy-to-see point of reference for all members of the public.

“Not only does it make us easier to find from land, but it also provides a helpful indication of wind direction and strength to water users.”

From Sunday, October 25, Exmouth NCI will be on watch from 9.30am until 4pm, daily.
