Firefighters tackle early-hours ‘accidental’ vehicle blaze in Exmouth

Firefighters tackled a vehicle blaze in Exmouth in the early hours of Tuesday morning (October 20).

The crew was called to the town centre shortly before 4.30am where they found a vehicle well-alight on the public highway.

The blaze destroyed most of the vehicle and spread to another nearby, resulting in fire damage.

The fire service said the cause of the blaze was accidental.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “One fire engine from Exmouth was quickly mobilised to the scene where crews reported one vehicle well-alight on a public road.

“Crews extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet, one breathing apparatus, one thermal imaging camera, small tools, and lighting.

“Crews reported the fire destroying seventy per cent of the vehicle as well as causing some fire damage to a second nearby vehicle.

“The fire is believed to be accidental.”
