Beer village is gearing up to host an alternative to Halloween trick-or-treating with its first ever drive-in cinema.
Organiser Eleanor Carr, of Unique Boutique Events, is hosting the event on Saturday, October 31, with a screening of two films, Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride, rated PG, at 5pm, followed by Simon Pegg’s cult classic Shaun of the Dead, rated 15, starting at 9pm.
Along with the socially-distanced showings, popcorn, hot food and drinks will be available on the night with an in-car order and delivery service.
Eleanor said: “Beer village and I had been in talks about a drive-in cinema last year but it hadn’t got further than that.
“With little else to do this summer we revisited the idea, confident that this type of event would be Covid-secure.
“A drive-in offers the opportunity for people to do something collectively while in the safety of their bubble.”
Eleanor, who is known for organising Seaton Eats Boutique and Sidmouth Eats Boutique street food market, said the drive-in movie night is supported by The Dolphin Hotel, with hot food, bar and toilets for film-goers.
Beer Parish Council will sell popcorn to raise funds for the village.
Eleanor, whose 2020 calendar of events has been wiped out by the pandemic, said: “Many local independent Beer and Seaton businesses are supporting the event too, and I am grateful for all the support I have received in launching this new event for the village.”
She said Unique Boutique Events and East Devon District Council have been ‘meticulous in ensuring people’s safety with regards to the current situation’.
Tickets are available now and numbers are strictly limited.
