Cyclist taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after crash at Exeter services roundabout

The Sidmouth Road remains partially blocked, traffic tailbacks are continuing and a seriously-injured cyclist was taken to hospital after a crash at the Sandygate roundabout in Exeter.

Devon and Cornwall Police said paramedics and the air ambulance were called shortly before 1pm on Tuesday (October 13) after a male cyclist was involved in a crash with a vehicle.

The cyclist was taken to hospital in Plymouth, police said.

The Sidmouth Road remains partially blocked with heavy traffic after the crash near the Moor Lane services, on the roundabout.

Vehicles remain in the road near the entrance to the services until recovery help arrives.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said the road was closed immediately after the crash was reported.

He said: “We received reports of a road traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicycle at the Sandygate roundabout in Exeter at around 12.45pm.

“Paramedics and the air ambulance also attended the scene.

“The male cyclist has been taken to Derriford Hospital with what are currently believed to be serious injuries.”
